U.S. monitoring Chinese activity in South China Sea
Tensions between China and the Philippines, a key American ally, intensified this week. U.S. intelligence agencies are closely monitoring activity around the disputed Scarborough Shoal, according to U.S. officials. The officials say the Chinese government installed what Beijing has called a "scientific structure" in the middle of the reef, angering the Philippines.
