Alien Isolation 2 Is Custom-Building Your Next Heart Attack

PUBLISHED·4h ago·3 min read

Alien Isolation was a masterclass in horror when it first launched, pitting players against a perfect organism hellbent on their destruction. With Alien Isolation 2 on the way, developer Creative Assembly is looking to place players in the ultimate cat-and-mouse game once again as they break free from the tight confines of the Sevastopol and navigate the planet of LV-921. While the game will feature cramped corridors to explore via the planetside Weyland-Yutani outpost, Kurosaki Station, they'll also be able to venture outside into a wilderness where the Xenomorph will be just as deadly in hunting them down. "What we're doing with the sequel is effectively training it to be able to hunt in the exterior spaces really effectively," creative director Al Hope said to GameSpot. "To be adapting again to the player, to every encounter, it's learning from the experience. And yeah, now taking that knowledge to the exterior in order to give a new Alien experience you haven't done yet." Creative Assembly is also working on custom audio technology to help fine-tune its blend of horror, with veterans from the first Alien Isolation's sound design team being involved in this process. "We're developing our own custom technology for lighting and audio to really deliver that experience that we're trying to create," Hope said. "The audio team--both the creative side and the tech side--is more or less the same audio team from the first game. So there's a great continuation there of the technology and the creative thinking. I'm very proud that the audio team won more or less every audio award going that year we released the first game, because I think it was such a big part of the experience, and that's really, I think we're very proud of what they achieved. And so the immersion and the atmosphere, as I said, really pull the player into the experience so they have those emotional reactions when the alien catches them, but it's all about all of the things working together to create that moment." Alien Isolation 2 introduces a new protagonist, Blake, who finds herself being hunted by the galaxy's most infamous monster, but we've got a feeling there's more to her than meets the eye. Set to launch in 2027, Alien Isolation 2 will be stalking PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. You might want to double-check the vents.
